SCORING SUMMARY

FIRST QUARTER

Colts quarterback Jim Harbaugh, from shotgun formation, hit Sean Dawkins one step ahead of Roderick Mullen up the sideline for 43 yards to the Green Bay 29. "I was running stride for stride with him, and he pushed me in the back," Mullen said. Linebacker George Koonce stopped Marshall Faulk for no gain on third and 1 but was penalized 5 yards for grabbing the face mask, giving the Colts a first down at the 15. Fullback Ray Crockett gained 13 yards on a swing pass behind an unorthodox full-house backfield, with Harbaugh in shotgun formation. From the 2, Faulk failed to gain off left guard, Faulk gained 1 on a sweep, and Harbaugh's rollout pass was caught out of bounds by the Packers' Doug Evans. Cary Blanchard kicked a 19-yard FG with 5 minutes 45 seconds left. 11 plays, 79 yards, 5:58 time of possession. Indianapolis 3, Green Bay 0.

Three penalties against the Packers negated a 30-yard screen pass to Edgar Bennett and forced a punt. On the first play, tight end Marcus Pollard ran to an open sector of the Packers' defense and took Harbaugh's pass for 38 yards. Koonce, starting his first game at middle linebacker since late 1993, said he dropped into coverage and turned expecting the tight end to cross to the strong side, but Pollard went the other way. "I'd like to stay in the middle," Koonce said. "I'd like to see this thing work, although I didn't have my reads down to a T." From the Green Bay 26, Crockett gained 2, Eugene Robinson broke up a pass and Craig Newsome closed decisively to limit Marvin Harrison to 6 yards on a third-and-8 slant. Blanchard kicked a 36-yard FG with 1:11 left. Five plays, 46 yards, 2:18. Indianapolis 6, Green Bay 0.

SECOND QUARTER

After the Packers punted for the third time in three possessions, Harbaugh found Harrison behind Newsome for a 54-yard touchdown with 13:14 left. Harbaugh faked a handoff at left tackle, slid right in the pocket and hit the rookie first-round draft choice from Syracuse. Newsome bit on the fake and was unable to catch up as the ball was caught at the Green Bay 20. Blanchard kicked the extra point. Two plays, 54 yards, 1:33. Indianapolis 13, Green Bay 0.

The Packers gained their first first down on Brett Favre's 16-yard pass to Robert Brooks on third and 9. After a false-start penalty on Keith Jackson, Favre hit Jackson alone in the right flat off bootleg action for 21. Jackson dropped a deep third-down pass inside the 15, but cornerback Ray Buchanan was detected holding against Brooks, giving Green Bay the first down. Antonio Freeman caught a quick hitch for 8 and a first down. From the Colts' 16, Favre threw the ball away under pressure, Tony Bennett (who beat Gary Brown) and Tony McCoy sacked Favre for a loss of 7, Brown was penalized for a false start and on third and 22 Travis Jervey gained 14 on a screen. Chris Jacke kicked a 32-yard FG with 7:00 left. 12 plays, 62 yards, 6:14. Indianapolis 13, Green Bay 3.

THIRD QUARTER

Harbaugh remained at quarterback and Faulk at halfback. Faulk burst through the middle of the second-string defense for 14 yards. On third and 3, Dawkins beat rookie cornerback Tyrone Williams deep up the sideline for a 39-yard touchdown pass. "I was in great position," Williams said. "I don't know if I got bumped from behind or tripped over my own feet." Blanchard kicked the extra point with 11:30 left. Five plays, 69 yards, 2:25. Indianapolis 20, Green Bay 3.

Roderick Mullen made a hard tackle on fullback Clif Groce on a swing pass and, in effect, took the ball away from him on the way down for a fumble recovery at the Indianapolis 46. Doug Pederson, subbing for Jim McMahon after the former Bears quarterback was shaken up on the second series of the third quarter, hit Anthony Morgan for 9 at the Colts' 34. However, the drive bogged down and Jacke kicked a 47-yard FG with 1:09 left. Six plays, 16 yards, 2:26. Indianapolis 20, Green Bay 6.

FOURTH QUARTER

Bobby Olive returned a punt through the middle of the coverage unit for 47 yards to the Green Bay 29. On third and 11, Gabe Wilkins had the chance to knock the Colts out of field-goal range with a running blind-side sack of Paul Justin. But Wilkins charged too high, and Justin bounced away to throw incomplete. Blanchard followed with a 47-yard FG with 10:59 left. Four plays, minus-1 yard, 1:01. Indianapolis 23, Green Bay 6.

Craig Hentrich punted for the eighth time. One play later, Aaron Bailey caught a 19-yard pass in the middle of the field against zone coverage. Mullen, playing safety, missed the tackle at the 50 and Bailey raced away from Williams to complete a 69-yard touchdown. "I saw it late," Mullen said. "I figured it was the linebacker's play, but I should have made it. He made a great play on it." Blanchard kicked the extra point with 8:35 left. Two plays, 69 yards, 0:49. Indianapolis 30, Green Bay 6.
