Jeff's Mock 1st Round

Updated 04/23/2009

No. Team Name Position College

1 Detroit Lions Matthew Stafford QB Georgia
Even with the new "meaner" looking logo the Lions still need help EVERYWHERE, so they start with a new face to the franchise.

2 St. Louis Rams Jason Smith OT Baylor
Smith & Monroe seem to have traded places. Either way, St Louie gets Orlando's replacement.

3 Kansas City Chiefs Tyson Jackson DE LSU
I think this is too high, but Gil Brandt who knows wayyyyy more than me says this is it.

4 Seattle Seahawks Eugene Monroe OT Virginia
They never did adequately replace Steve Hutchinson & Jones is getting a bit long in the tooth.

5 Cleveland Browns Michael Crabtree WR Texas Tech
I had originally slated Crabtree as Seattle's pick, but since he falls to Cle, they snatch him after trading Winslow & possibly Edwards too.

6 Cincinnati Bengals Andre Smith OT Alabama
After successive injury-filled seasons, protecting Palmer is a must.

7 Oakland Raiders Jeremy Maclin WR Missouri
Just speed baby.

8 Jacksonville Jaguars Mark Sanchez QB USC
Gerard is getting older & they want to give Sanchez a year or two before he's the starter.

9 Green Bay Packers Bj Raji DT Boston College
I keep flopping between Raji & Orakpo, but I think if both are there, then Raji gets the call.

10 San Francisco 49ers Brian Orakpo OLB Texas
9ers can't believe Orakpo falls this far.

11 Buffalo Bills Michael Oher OT Mississippi
After trading Peters, they NEED an offensive tackle.

12 Denver Broncos Aaron Curry LB Wake Forest
Let's see they've alienated (then traded) Cutler & Marshall's in trouble again. My guess is they'll package 12 & 18 to move up for Sanchez. But if they stay here it'll be Curry.

13 Washington Redskins Everette Brown DE/OLB Fla State
Since they let Jason Taylor go, the skins need a pass rusher.

14 New Orleans Saints Malcolm Jenkins CB Ohio State
The Saints cut McKenzie so they need a new cornerback.

15 Houston Texans Rey Maualuga LB USC
Texans get the best middle linebacker in the draft.

16 San Diego Chargers Hakeem Nicks WR North Carolina
Another weapon for Rivers.

17 New York Jets Josh Freeman QB Kansas St
It looks like they've "moved on" & won't want Favre back either.

18 Denver Broncos
From Chicago
Aaron Maybin LB LSU
Maybin outside & Curry inside - wow what a set of linebackers.

19 Tampa Bay Buccaneers Peria Jerry DT Mississippi
What they need is a real quarterback, but there isn't one available here.

20 Detroit Lions
From Dallas
Eben Britton OT Arizona
The Lions need an OT, whoomp - there it is.

21 Philadelphia Eagles Chris "Beanie" Wells RB Ohio State
Westbrook is 30.

22 Minnesota Vikings Percy Harvin WR Florida
Still trying to replace Chris Carter.

23 New England Patriots Brian Cushing LB USC
Another Belichick steal.

24 Atlanta Falcons Larry English DE/OLB Northern Illinois
Birds hope jump in competition level will be seamless.

25 Miami Dolphins Darrius Heyward-Bey WR Maryland
Help for Pennington.

26 Baltimore Ravens James Laurinaitis LB Ohio State
Bart Scott's replacement.

27 Indianapolis Colts Clay Matthews LB USC
Defense, which a perrenial sore spot, gets some help.

28 Buffalo Bills
From Carolina Thru Phil.
Brandon Pettigrew TE Oklahoma State
Bills need a TE, so this just makes sense.

29 New York Giants Kenny Britt WR Rutgers
They need to replace Plaxico.

30 Tennessee Titans Robert Ayres DE Tennessee
Ya, I know Haynesworth wasn't a DE, but they still need to retool the defensive line.

31 Arizona Cardinals
It's 31 0 in hades
Knowshon Moreno RB Georgia
Is James "Edgin'" his way out?

32 Pittsburgh Steelers Alex Mack C/G California
More blockers for Big Ben.

Other possible 1st rounders include:
Evander "Ziggy" Hood, DT, Missouri; , Michael Johnson DE/OLB, Georgia Tech;
& Donald Brown, RB, U Conn
