2012 Packers Draft Choices
April 26-28, 2012
1st Round 2012 Not Available
Packers Draft Choices

Updated 04/14/2012

The greatest needs are:
1. Right Outside Linebacker
2. Defensive End - especially if he can generate some pass rush.
3. Safety - depends on if Nick Collins can come back, but even if he does, will he still be the same?.
4. Interior Offensive Line depth (need jumps to 1 or 2 if Wells isn't resigned).
5. Quarterback

But Ted Thompson historically doesn't draft for need - he really does draft the "Best Available Player".
(see Jordy Nelson - that turned out OK, eh?)

The Packers received two 4th Rd and two 7th Rd Compensatory Selections.

According to the NFL, the losses the Packers were compensated for were:
OG Daryn Colledge (Arizona Cardinals, five years, $27.5 million) -- 4th round.
DL Cullen Jenkins (Philadelphia Eagles, five years, $25 million) -- 4th round.
RB Brandon Jackson (Cleveland Browns, two years, $4.5 million) -- 7th round.
OG Jason Spitz (Jacksonville Jaguars, three years, $5.25 million) -- 7th round.

Rd Overall Players' Name Pos HT WT Speed College

1 28/28 Shea McClellin OLB 6-3 260 4.63 Boise State
Packer fans will finally cheer Ted Thompson for his 1st Rd pick.
Ted takes "best available player".

2 28/59 Jared Crick DE 6-4 279 4.99 Nebraska
Somehow fans are going to boo Ted Thompson for his 2nd Rd pick.

3 28/90 Antonio Allen S 6-1 202 4.57 South Carolina
Fans will boo this pick too.
They'll expect some team to give up a Pro bowl safety for a 7th rd pick.

4a 28/123 Philip Blake C 6-3 311 5.25 Baylor
Blake is drafted to groom for 2013-14.

4b 37/132 Josh Norman CB 6-0 197 4.66 Coastal Carolina
Norman's a tad slow & from a ridiculously small school, reminiscent of former Packer Al Harris.

4c 38/133 Larry Warford G 6-3 306 5.34 Kentucky
Surprisingly quick and agile for such a big man; has good balance and some change of direction ability; can get to the second level as well as slide around the pocket to pick up blitzers.

5 28/163 BJ Coleman QB 6-3 233 4.93 Tennessee-Chattanooga
Pack needs another QB with Flynn's departure.

6 28/197 Brandon Bolden RB 5-11 222 4.66 Mississippi
Fits the mold of a Thompson back - big, but has some shiftiness

7a 17/224 Jaye Howard DE/DT 6-3 301 4.82 Florida
Maybe a bit short for a 5 technique, but that's why he's a 7th rounder.

7b 28/235 Asa Jackson CB 5-10 191 4.49 Cal-Poly
Small school so he has no experience against top-flight talent.

7c 34/241 Chris Rainey WR/KR 5-8 180 4.32 Florida
The tiny little waterbug Thompson always wanted, but was never able to draft.

7d 36/243 Damien Jackson S 6-2 210 4.48 Mississippi
Tall, long athlete with a leaner-than-ideal frame who looks his best facing the action.

Overall Selection number in Rds 4 thru 7 were determined after compensatory selections were announced.

Round 4b (132) is a Compensatory selection for free agent losses.
