2014 Packers Draft Choices May 8th - 10th, 2014 |

Updated 04/28/2014 |
The greatest needs are:
1. Pass Rusher - opposite Clay Matthews. ✓ Signed J.Peppers 2. Inside Linebacker - The run defense has been sorely lacking. 3. Safety - maybe even 2 of them (maybe even the #1 need). 4. Tight End - The chance of Finley coming back is about 20%. 5. Quarterback - Tolzien looks like a keeper, but a 3rd QB is needed if Matt Flynn isn't retained. Ted Thompson historically doesn't draft for need - he really does draft the "Best Available Player".
The Packers received a third-round pick (No. 98 overall) for the loss of wide receiver Greg Jennings

Rd | Overall | Players' Name | Pos | HT | WT | Speed | College |
1 | 21/21 | Austin Seferian-Jenkins | TE | 6-6 | 271 | 4.56 | Washington |
I just don't feel as though the Pack will clear Finley to return.
40 time measured 4/28. |
|||||||
2 | 21/53 | Deone Bucannon | S | 6-1 | 215 | 4.57 | Washington State |
Best Player Available (BPA). Bucannon helps upgrade a secondary that's crying for a good safety.
3a | 21/85 | Jared Abbrederis | WR | 6-2 | 190 | 4.52 | Wisconsin |
It'll be a minor miracle if he lasts this long, but he might due to the running offense he played in.
He's raw, but has great talent. One thing's for certain, he can block down field in the run game. |
|||||||
3b | 34/98 | Billy Turner | OL | 6-5 | 315 | 5.05 | North Dakota State | Turner was a Tackle at NDS, but probably will need to move inside to play in the NFL.
He has good feet to pull & run to help Lacy get to the outside. |
4 | 21/121 | Calvin Barnett | DE | 6-2 | 300 | 4.95 | Oklahoma State |
Pickett, Jolly & Wilson are all Free Agents. Pickett's aging & Jolly suffered a neck injury which clouds his future.
5a | 21/161 | Logan Thomas | QB | 6-6 | 254 | Virginia Tech | Thomas, at 6-6 254 is BIG man. He was the life-blood of the Hokies offense. Now he gets a chance to step up 2 levels. |
5b | 36/176 | Kenny Ladler | S | 6-0 | 207 | 4.58 | Vanderbilt | The Safety position needs help if Hyde stays at corner. If they move Hyde to Safety, then this pick might be a cornerback. |
6 | 21/197 | Devon Kinnard | LB | 6-3 | 255 | 4.85 | USC | Kinnard will compete at Outside Linebacker. |
7 | 21/236 | Jerick McKinnon | RB | 5-9 | 206 | 4.58 | Georgia Southern | McKinnon played against inferior talent, but stood out enough to get invited to the Senior Bowl. |
Somewhere in here I expect Thompson to trade down to acquire more picks. Just no way to predict when.
I don't have them drafting a LB very high - But when (not if) Ted Thompson trades down for more picks, expect them to pick a LB ( 3rd-4th Rd? ). Rd 3b (34/98) is a Compensatory Selection. Rd 5b (36/176) is a Compensatory Selection. |
